Cyber Monday describes the Monday after Thanksgiving . It has been created in 2005 by an association of companies to take advantage of the boom of online commerce. Black Friday has been along for a while and everybody keeps in mind the riots in shops, created by customers waiting in line for hours, waiting for the door to open, to be the first ones to get the good deals. And even if Black Friday 2013 shows a new record in sale with a total of $57.4 billion spend on the black day (+3% compared to 2012 according to the National Retail Federation), more and more people are reluctant to fight in the roman arena of Best Buy and Target. So there is a market, a group of people willing to stay at home instead of fighting. And that's how Cyber Monday was born. With an increasing amount of purchase online, the idea was simple: Make a Black Friday for Online Shopping. And the trend picked up, so that some 131 million Americans will be shopping online today according to the NRF. It is still less than Black Friday indeed, but the little brother is catching up. Fedex expects this day to be the busiest day they ever had.
As for us, Cyber Monday is the ideal opportunity to promote your business on Social Media. Following the trend will make you able to share your deals on your social media and this way you will let your precious audience know about your line-up of products and your sales will increase through your online deal. We often say that advertising on social media is a bad idea because you will chase your audience away by being just a social ad. But today is the day you will advertise and that is what your audience is expecting. The opportunity need to be ceased.
To summarize, Cyber Monday may not be as big as Black Friday yet, but it is an opportunity for online businesses to offer deals, promote their products on social media (it is allowed) and by the same time getting exposure for the end of the year. Be online, promote your deals and Take it EZ
