In an online strategy, the blog has a key role. A blog is an exceptional tool to give your business a new face. It is not about the sales anymore it is a support of information for your business. It gives you the opportunity to become an expert in your industry, and by this mean increase your online reputation. But how to turn your blog into a traffic driving tool, and increase your ranking and exposure?
First of all, keep in mind that the blog is the place to expose your content. By its structure it acts like an extension of your website and allows you to post content. We have been talking in previous posts about how content creation is important nowadays due to new ranking algorithms. In this context the blog should be one of the principal tools in your online strategy. It needs to be linked to your website, and have the same graphic appearance as your website. It needs to be recognizable easily.
Then once you get the blog linked to the website, the second part is to make sure to link it to your social media. They are the end of the content sharing chain, the best way to promote the blog. For example, people that follow you on Twitter are people interested in your industry (usually), so they are the one who are going to be interested in your content, share it and enlarge your audience. Make sure the content is sharable (button share to all social media ) and is linked to your own social media.
Last part, and maybe the most important is the content itself. Do not blog for the sake of blogging. A constant flow of content is important to keep your content fresh and accurate, but the downside of this strategy is flavorless content posted because "it has been X days without new content". Tasteless content is your worst enemy. A good content needs to be clever, clear and provide something to the reader. It needs to have the added value that gives the will to the reader to share it. A good content is a unique content. Something unusual, funny or useful will always be welcome by your followers. Make it short and straight to the point. Nobody likes to read pages of information. The tone is very important too. I suggest to write like you talk to somebody, a friendly conversational tone.
To summarize, be organized, be connected, be fresh and clever, and take it EZ
