5 tips to get your SEO right

Having a website is good. This is the first step to get your business online. But a website is not the end of the road. With more than 45 billion webpages online, your website will be as noticeable as a branch in the Amazonian forest. So you need to promote this website, to make it appear in Search Engines pages, and by that I mean SEO. But today's article objective is not to promote SEO, but to highlight some main mistakes we have been seeing and we are going to try to give some basic guidelines to get your website started on the right foot.

1) Website and domain

First thing first, to get the best ranking for your website, you have to make sure there are no major mistakes on your website. You need a domain name, if possible your own domain name so you get a real URL easy to find and that includes the name of your business. It may seem obvious but this aspect is sometime forgotten. Then since we are on the website, make sure that all the links are working and all the pages can be accessed easily. A dead link is a burden that you certainly don't need on your website.

2) Include the right words on the page

Now that your website has a domain and all the links are OK, we need to focus on the content of your page. And for that you need to be your customer for a minute. When your customer is going to look for your service, what is he or she going to type?

So you have to include your main keywords of your activity in the pages of your website. But in the description, the way you are going to write the sentences is important.  Let's take an example: you want to know how many people are living in Paris. how are you going to write the question in a search engine ? Certainly not "What is the population of Paris" even if it would make sense.  The right way would be "how many people are living in Paris?" Google is becoming more and more "human" in its approach of search for answer and the best way to get results is to ask him like a human. This is the kind of question you have to ask yourself while writing the content of your website.

3) Compiling content instead of link building

Building links is not the the way to go anymore. With the new algorithm from Google, content creation and social media marketing are replacing link building, but we already treated this aspect on other articles on this blog . But to make it simple, you need to post content on your website in relation with your business. It can be as easy as posting the menu of your restaurant, pictures of the travel you organize and so on.

4) Title and description of the pages

It may not seem much, but this component is often the weakest link in your SEO chain. Give a description to your pages and describe your activity. Make sure that all the description of your pages are filled so it makes the website appealing, and improve the SEO ranking by improving the "click-ability" of your website.

5) Stay informed.

The best way to keep your ranking high is to stay informed, by reading blogs (no i'm not doing any self promotion here), articles, attending webinars, and by chatting on forums and social media. By staying on top of the subject, you will be informed of any change in the SEO sphere  and your website will stay on top of the rankings.

So if we summarize, clean and functional website, content, social media, and an informed webmaster are the best tools for your website to rank high.
