How to advertise on Black Friday?



Whether you are a electronic fan, a tech-savvy person or you just need to replace your TV, Black Friday is the event of the year. From the customer point of view, it is the day to buy any electronic, and now more and more business are embracing this trend of discount for the last Friday of November. But this is also a golden opportunity for businesses to liquidate stocks and get ready for the end of the year, with Christmas. According to the national retail federation, in 2011, 152 million customers went out shopping on Black Friday, and according to CNN money, in 2012, customers spent $59.1 billion the last Friday of November. This is the Golden egg for the retail industry and promotions will show on every social media you can think about. More than 40% of the customers who shop on Black Friday heard about the promotion on social media. So how to make your Black Friday promotion count this year?  

First of all, your promotion need to be visible and easily identifiable. What does it mean and what should we do? We have seen a lot of changes recently on SEO algorithm and content is definitely the way to go to make your promotion pop up and attract people. Our suggestion for our clients is to use a landing page specially dedicated to your promotion, and to promote it on social media.  Make sure your website display the promotion with a link to your landing page (a banner can be the ideal tool with a measured budget).

Second on the list, once you have your landing page, is to animate this page, to make it entertaining. A hashtag campaign with the right play on words, a contest with additional discount (or a prize) on social media will bring you the exposure you need to turn your Black Friday into a Green Friday.

And last but not least, some advice for small businesses, follow the big trends to make sure you appear in mainstream results. For example, track the good hashtag for your business (not the one you created, another one, a very popular one) to make sure that you are in the same lake as the other fishes.
