All you need to know about "Hummingbird" Algorithm of Google

Last Friday Google revealed the new search algorithm called "Hummingbird". They started using it last month but they officially announced it on September 27th .

But By the way, what is a search algorithm? Let's take the Wikipedia definition which is often the more understandableIn computer science, a search algorithm is an algorithm for finding an item with specified properties among a collection of items. The items may be stored individually as records in a database; or may be elements of a search space defined by a mathematical formula or procedure, such as the roots of an equation with integer variables; or a combination of the two, such as the Hamiltonian circuits of a graph.

We are talking about the keystone of Google, the way they sort billions of pages and organize them in order to give the best answer to a request. This algorithm determines where your website will show up on the list.

The Old Pagerank is still a part of Hummingbird, so all the effort your business put into SEO are not vain and will not vanish with this new update. The Panda and Penguin update are still running too, as a part of the new algorithm. It is like having a new house but with your old furniture in it.

The biggest evolution of this algorithm is the fact that Hummingbird will focus on the meaning of the word, especially word that are not precise like "Place".  Moreover, it will consider the meaning of the full sentence, compared to the addition of meanings from the words in this sentence.

It is still too early now to see what this new update will change in the way we conceive our SEO strategies, and as it has been launched last month and we haven't heard of any major outcry from publisher, it seems that this update didn't mess too much with the rankings. Some businesses may have lost in ranking but according to Google, it would be the result of a query-to-query problem linked to old updates.

We are confident that this new update will allow SEO strategies always more innovative and challenging.

Take it EZ
